Participants for questionnaire are 205Japanese university students and 119 Korean university students. The mainmeasures are as follows: the images about nations (positive and negative), the images about citizens (affinity and reliability), and the sentiment towards other citizens, and the interest in foreign languages. The findings obtained by the path analyses are shown below. Toward Korea, the images about Korean people affect the images about Korea, then, affect the sentiment towards other citizens, and then, affect the interest in foreign languages, both for Japanese students and Korean students. In contrast,toward Japan, the images about Japanese people affect the images about Japan, and the sentiment towards other citizens affects the interest in foreign languages; there was no causal relationship between the images about Japan and the sentiment towards other citizens, both for Japanese students and Korean students.
